Why Marlowe and Ravel?
Marlowe and Ravel is a romantic gesture toward our love of poetry and music; Christopher Marlowe is a favorite poet of Elizabeth’s and Cathy has long listened to and admired the works of French composer Maurice Ravel.
If these delights thy mind may move, Then live with me and be my love.
—Christopher Marlowe, The Passionate Shepherd to His Love
What is your photography style?
As two lead photographers we blend our unique approaches to wedding photography to offer our clients comprehensive and eclectic photography coverage. While Elizabeth’s photojournalistic style leads her to document the candid and in-between moments, Cathy’s finesse with posing and eye toward fine art allow her to capture stunning portraits and creative details.
Why are two lead photographers working together?
When photographing a wedding individually, we don’t want to miss anything. We follow the action and remain on our toes all day, from when you begin getting ready for your wedding until you take the dance floor for the final song. Whereas when we work together we have more freedom to be present in the moment and transcend the traditional approach to wedding photography. It enables us to follow the emotion or the light or explore something beyond the most obvious shot. One of us can pull back to photograph the big picture while the other stays with the more immediate action of the moment. We trust one another completely to get the shot, so it opens each of us up for increased creativity and inspiration throughout the day. We’ve found our images are the most meaningful and compelling when we work together.
How long have you been working together?
We are working together as Marlowe and Ravel for the first time in 2014. However, we have a combined eighteen years of experience in photographing weddings and we photographed our first wedding together in 2007.
